Review: A roof window is really a skylight that is within hands reach and is used to look outside from, rather than being way overhead. That's why it's called a "window" rather than a skylight. Because it is meant to be looked through, the window is made to flip right over and allow the cleaning of the outside glass, from inside the house.
This GPU model can also open completely outwards, allowing the insect screening to be used with the skylight fully opened, therefore, giving much more ventilation (as opposed to its GGU counterpart). Also, because the hinge is at the very top of this window, the overall opening is large and more usable for a person to look out through. In fact, this unit is considered an egress window, allowing a person to exit through the window in case of emergency.
These roof windows are more expensive than regular skylights and require more installation time, but for a loft area, they offer viewing and usability that is far beyond what regular skylights can offer.
These are the units that we most often recommend to our clients who have a loft space.
