Review: This high energy efficiency glass is one of the reasons we really like the Velux product line.
We often end up replacing old, builder grade, dome skylights that have a short life span. Our clients notice a big difference right away, in energy efficiency, compared to the domes. Dome skylights have the virtue of bringing in a little bit more light, than flat skylights, due to the curvature of the acrylic, but that same curvature creates a magnifying glass effect that can often create a great amount of heat in the summer time. This heat makes it very hard for the air conditioning to work properly on the second floor. We have had many clients that have switched from the domes to the high efficiency glass skylights, tell us "NOW THE A/C WORKS UPSTAIRS!"
The same energy efficiency pays off in the winter time as well, by keeping the heat inside the house.

Review: As the definition above suggests, this blind is particularly effective at completely knocking out the light. It is the blind that we install most often. The white cloth material on this blind is completely opaque and runs down channels on either side of the skylight and is almost completely smooth from side to side, except for the occasional small wrinkle.
USER TIP: IN THE WINTER
When a blind is closed during cold weather, the heat of the house does not reach the glass and keep it warm. This can cause condensation to form more readily between the blind and the skylight. So remember to open your blinds everyday, to allow air movement to reach the glass.

Review: This new glass from Velux (circa 2012) provides a much higher heat blockage value. It has the same laminated glass virtues that the comfort glass has for breakage, noise and UV protection.
We recommend this to our clients that have a particular concern with stopping any heat from coming into the house, or when we have a large area of skylights facing south.
We have found that we have had to wait 5 to 8 weeks for delivery of this glass on some Velux skylights.

Review: Like its brother, the flat roof window, this new skylights from Velux came out in 2012. We really like this unit for use as a roof access option, for our clients with flat roofs. It also has a pre-built, insulated frame that gives much better energy efficiency than other industry units. The interior lowE3 glass, gives tremendous energy efficiency and the third layer dome on top creates the water and snow drainage required for a skylight sitting on a flat roof. This series is limited in sizing choices and a bit more expensive than standard skylights, but the installation labour savings and higher energy efficiency value, outweighs the extra cost.
